The 1940's was a decade that was marked by war, depression, and hopelessness across the globe. The main event in this decade was World War II. This happened from 1939 until mid 1945. World War II was the deadliest conflict in world history as it ended the lives of upwards of 60 milion people. Relatively 3 percent of the worlds population. People from almost 60 countries were involved as the world fought and died in order to either take over the world, or save it. This war featured armies from two groups of countries. The Axis powers. and the Allies. The Axis powers featured frontrunner's Germany and Japan with a strong sidekick in Italy. They had the world carved up on their maps and were ready to take it. Allies said otherwise, they were lead by strong prestigious nations such as France, Britain and the United States. The Germans had Europe under their control and the Japanese took over most of southeast Asia before the Allies drove them back to their original lands and eliminated the threat. This war was fought with a new set of tactics, weapons, and vehicles that changed warfare forever. Among the frontrunners of these technology were German Tanks, Japanese fighter and bomber planes, and one major American bomb that ended the war. This war changed history and created world powers out of some countries, and turned others into disasters.
